La-Rae Subay, a “Georgia Peach” from Athens (Atlanta), is the talented founder and principal designer of Black Ankh Designs LLC. La-Rae is making a name for herself in the fashion industry with the creativity and passion exhibited in her distinctive designs. She costume designed for the Black Theatre Troupe, and currently designs accessory items for a major baby product manufacturer. The Black Ankh clothing line has been featured in several fashion shows, and is on the move, seeking placement in upscale, trendsetting boutiques throughout the country.

Inspired by the Egyptian Ankh symbol and African culture, she is deeply moved by the energy and spirit that exists within each unique, colorful and breathtaking fabric print. Sewing to rhythmic musical favorites like African drumming, Reggae, and India Arie, her designs result in a powerful, artistic, wearable motifs suitable for any physique in any size for any social occasion. “My designs are revered by individuals who are open to embracing diversity and open to wearing fun, radiant garments created with colorful prints.” Ms. Subay’s signature is her talented display of innovation and blending colorful prints, and she specializes in working with mud cloth.

In addition to being self taught in the fashion industry, she holds a M.A. in Education and a B.A. in Psychology, and is the proud mother of three spirited children.
