Ringleader Clothing was founded in 2005 in the Washington, DC area by Ian Purcell and Pete Smith, two friends with a history of independent fashion tendencies. As a child Pete fought conventional dress codes by wearing winter clothes in the summer and summer clothes in the winter. During their high school years, both Ian and Pete opted for designing t-shirts or finding obscure designs rather than the typical mall fashions.

In 2005, after earning a degree in design as well as fine tuning their business skills, they decided to create Ringleader Clothing for those people who shared a desire for style independent of major commercial trends.

Over the past few years, Ringleader has become a favorite brand among many bands in the DC area and beyond as well as individual consumers across the country and a few internationally, from all walks of life.
